Two homemade bombs detonated in the nation's capital on Thursday, causing the loss of a national guard serviceman and wounds to four other people, among them two law enforcement officials. Prosecutors described the event as a "militant" attack. Per an report, the initial explosion took place during a patrol by two servicemen. The subsequent device was detonated as medics and officers were responding to the site of the first blast.

In a related development, aerial units struck two chemical production facilities situated in Russia's Novgorod and Smolensk regions. The commander of drone forces announced that these plants were manufacturing materials for munitions used by Russian forces in the war against Ukraine. At the same time, the military leadership on Thursday rejected Russian claims to have seized control of the settlement of Siversk. Internationally, the alliance's leader cautioned allies that "we are Russia's next target," painting a picture of a potential broader European war within the coming half-decade. Concurrently, a plan to keep immobilized an estimated €210bn of Russian central bank assets within the EU is set to be ratified. This measure facilitates a substantial loan to Ukraine, funded by the immobilized Russian assets.

Leadership Comments on War and Diplomacy

DPRK leader Kim Jong-un reportedly hailed his country's troops engaged in Ukraine, claiming they had shown the "prestige" of the North Korean army. Seoul's assessments suggest heavy losses among these personnel.

In another development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about a reported US suggestion for a one-sided Ukrainian pullback from currently held parts of the Donbas to establish a "free economic zone."
