Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
