The loved ones of young people lost after a devastating blaze at a bar in a Swiss winter destination are confronting an painful period of uncertainty for answers and appealing for information about their loved ones publicly.
The fire devastated the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of New Year's Day. Circulated images depict the roof structure being engulfed in flames as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.
Officials have stated that it could take considerable time to formally name the victims of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and wounded another scores more. Authorities said on the latest update that 113 of the those hurt have been accounted for, with efforts still underway to identify the final individuals.
In the waiting period, families and friends have been taking to the internet to plead for information about their friends who were at the bar that fateful night.
Appeals for the Unaccounted For
The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his parent.
The resident of a town near the city, informed a publication that she had returned to Lausanne to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, a nightmare. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she told the paper.
She added that some of his friends had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they experienced a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian foreign ministry has indicated that six of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, who hailed from Genoa but now living in the UAE.
The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who carried with him passion and authentic values."
His parent, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise unaccounted for. His parent told reporters that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"A close friend told me they fled after the fire erupted and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers stated, "I remember his good nature and positive demeanor, combined with great responsibility. Often offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss nationality but lives full-time in the country, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to sources.
Her sibling has shared an appeal online, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the situation.
