The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman containing several human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct souls, each with their own fears and motivations. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while other scenes show the main character navigating a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around controlling the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the girl one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the lobby have large blooms where their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the body belongs to them," explains a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a persona is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, since each soul can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
